Special Collections—European and American Music Treatises

Introduction

A rich array of historical treatises about European and American music is held in the Oberlin Conservatory Library Special Collections. These works span from the sixteenth century to today, covering topics in music history, music theory, organology, and music iconography by authors writing in English, French, German, Latin, Italian, and Spanish. Two collections are particularly rich in treatises:

Access and Use

Most of the works presented here have been digitized by Oberlin and contributed to the Internet Archive, where they may be accessed freely.
