TimelineJS is the creation of Knight Labs at Northwestern University. It is freely available.

Step by Step

Sign In

https://timeline.knightlab.com/

All you need is a gmail account.

Make a copy of the timeline template

Rename the Google spreadsheet so you can find it in your Drive
Do not edit or delete any of the column names
There can be no blank rows in the spreadsheet

Plan your timeline slide by slide

First slide is the landing page - give it a good title
All other slides may include:
- Headline/Title
- Image/Media
  - use images/media files that live on the web
    - Sources of Royalty Free Images
- Text
- Links to relevant sites
  - Simple HTML lessons

Customize

date format and range
background color
- find hex codes
language, font

Publish Changes

Share

Timelines can be shared through links, on social media, or hosted on a web site using the embed code provided
