MUSY 100: Introduction to Ethnomusicology

Getting Started

Liner notes are another great way to find information! Liner notes are writings included with a recording, like a CD or an LP. Not all recordings have liner notes, and some are more detailed than others. You'll have to look and see to find out!

How do I know if there are liner notes?

Step 1: Let's go to OBIS!

Step 2: Look for a recording. A few things to try:

  • Searching by instrument as a keyword
  • Searching by performer or ensemble name
  • Searching by geographic location

Step 3: Check the notes to see if it mentions "Program notes."

Step 4a: For CDs, head to the library, show the call number to the circulation staff, and they will fetch it for you! We also have external drives and listening rooms available.

Step 4b: For Con-LPs, use the "Request" button in OBIS. Note that LPs are in-library use only.
