Where to Find Background Sources

All About Background Sources

Background sources are typically written for a general audience, and are intended to provide an overview of a topic.

Background sources may:

  • Provide context for the topic
  • Define key terms and concepts
  • Identify and summarize important works (books, articles, etc.)

Background sources tend to present established facts and information that is generally accepted within the relevant discipline(s).
