This collection features digital copies of 113 antique maps of Africa and accompanying text dating from the mid-16th Century to the early 20th Century. All scanned maps are authentic and originally collected by the Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies, Northwestern University.

The most useful encyclopedia for African art and history, Art and Life in Africa includes essays on the countries and peoples of the contintent.

Most comprehensive art encyclopedia available in English; useful for scholarly overviews and excellent bibliographies.
- African HIstory: Oxford Research Encyclopedias
A small (100 essays, Aug. 2018) but growing resource; peer-reviewed entries cover fundamental topics as well as new research.
