What is Search.Libraries?

An integrated library system replacing OBIS, Summon, the Journal Finder and the OhioLink Catalog with a single search interface on June 25, 2025. 

If in the old system I used....

How do I place a hold to request an Oberlin book for pickup?

Oberlin students, faculty, and staff and registered community borrowers should first sign in to your Search.Libraries account, then search for the item by title and view the record. After you are signed in, a green request button will appear in the "Get It" area of the page. Screenshot of Get It section and Request button.

From this point, indicate the loan term, last needed by date, and pick the book up at the circulation desk library that holds it after you are notified that it is ready. Check "my library card" to review the status of the request and the pickup location. 

How can I determine whether Oberlin has access to a journal article?

Search by article title or DOI in Search.Libraries and follow links to full text. 

How can I browse a journal, or determine which dates or volumes are available at Oberlin?

Use the Journals A-Z function in Search.Libraries. Journals A-Z is linked from Research Tools on the library website and from the expanded top navigation menu inside Search.Libraries (click on the three dots to open) to the full menu. 

How do I filter Search.Libraries results to online or electronic materials?

Set the availability filter to “available online.” 

How do I filter Search.Libraries results to only items physically available in an Oberlin library?

To see physical items from any branch, set the availability filter to “Physical Items@Oberlin.” To see physical items from a particular branch, set the library filter to your preferred branch. 

How do I request new purchases?

Purchasing resumes in mid-July, after the new fiscal year. Contact your library liaison or place a request from the library website. 

What is a ghost record?

Ghost records temporily displayed after launch due to a migration bug, but this issue should have been resolved as of July 7, 2025. If you see additional ghost records please report the bug.
