Oberlin College Libraries' Book Tips: Home

Trying to figure out if you have to buy a book for class?

The best way to find out if the library has a book is to search in Search.Libraries by title.

You can also do a keyword search with words from the title and author's name.
(Search.Libraries is also great for research of all kinds).

Here are the possible scenarios:

1) We have the book in print and the STATUS in Search.Libraries is "AVAILABLE"

-Great! Use the information about LOCATION and CALL NUMBER to find the book in the stacks (text it to yourself!)

-NOTE: If the the LOCATION in OBIS has the word RESERVE in it, the loan period is short

3) We have the book in print and the STATUS in Search.Libraries is "MISSING" or there is a date in that field

-This means the book is NOT currently available

-Try alternatives like OhioLINK, SearchOhio, or Interlibrary Loan

4) We have access to the book online - read on your laptop or phone!

5) We do not have the book in print or online
