Library session: Schedule

Here's how we'll spend our time today:

  1. Introductions (5 min.)
    • We'll introduce ourselves, and I'll talk briefly about research support at the Libraries.
  2. Framing the research question (20 min.)
    • We'll talk about moving from a set of topics to a viable research question.
    • How do I create research questions? (Activity): We'll fill out this worksheet, and share our research questions as a class.
  3. Citation management software (10 min.)
    • Creating an account (Activity): You'll take a moment to create an account in RefWorks, Zotero, or another citation management tool of your choice.
  4. Search platforms and searching (40 min.)
    • We'll briefly review the Oberlin College Libraries website, catalogs, and other search platforms, and practice advanced search strategies.
    • Keyword Brainstorming and developing a search strategy (Activity): Working in small groups, and using this worksheet as a guide, we'll put search techniques into practice, and begin gathering resources.
