For journal articles start with African Arts, the premier journal in the field. The art library owns the entire run from 1967 to the current issue; it is also available as an ejournal from multiple vendors.

Callaloo, the premier journal of literature, art, and culture of the African Diaspora, publishes original work by and about writers and visual artists of African descent worldwide. Every year the 5th issue is titled Callahoo Art.

Founded in 1949 Caribbean Quarterly is an interdisciplinary scholarly journal exploring all aspects of Caribbean culture. In addition to peer reviewed essays they include general interest pieces, public lectures, personal opinions, book reviews as well as creative writing and reviews of creative writing publications.

emisférica is the Hemispheric Institute’s peer-reviewed, online, trilingual scholarly journal. Published biannually, journal issues focus on specific areas of inquiry in the study of performance and politics in the Americas. The journal publishes academic essays, multimedia artist presentations, activist interventions, and translations, as well as book, performance, and film reviews. Its languages are English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Journal of Black Studies is a bimonthly peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes papers in the fields of social sciences and ethnic studies concerning African-American culture. The journal's editors-in-chief are Molefi Kete Asante (Temple University) and Ama Mazama (Temple University). The journal was established in 1970 and is currently published by SAGE Publications.

The Journal of Caribbean History (JCH) is a double-blind peer reviewed journal produced by the Departments of History, The University of the West Indies, and published by the University of the West Indies Press. JCH is dedicated to the publishing of original, rigorous research papers of a high quality that addresses all aspects of Caribbean history in the mainland territories of North, Central and South America.

The Journal of Haitian Studies (JOHS) is the only referred journal dedicated to scholarship on Haiti. Combining the sciences and social sciences with the arts and humanities, JOHS provides a platform to discuss issues relating to Haiti, the Haitian Diaspora, and the nation’s rapport with the international community. JOHS is published under the auspices of the Haitian Studies Association by the University of California, Santa Barbara. It publishes articles in English, French, Kreyòl, and Spanish.

Small Axe focuses on publishing critical work that examines the ideas that guided the formation of Caribbean modernities. It mainly includes scholarly articles, opinion essays, and interviews, but it also includes literary works of fiction and poetry, visual arts, and reviews.
