El Museo del Barrio (New York)The preeminent U.S. forum and resource dedicated to Caribbean, Latino, and Latin American art. Their 8,000+-object collection contains Caribbean, Latino and Latin American art.
Four collecting areas:
1. Modern and Contemporary art: particularly strong in Post War (1950 – the present): 1,5000 works
2. Graphics: especially Puerto Rican, Nuyorican, Mexican, and Chicano fine prints from the 20th and 21st centuries (4,000+ works)
3. Taíno/Pre-Columbian: pan-Caribbean archeological objects, primarily from Puerto Rico & the Dominican Republic; also fine photographs, graphics and contemporary works influenced by the Taíno legacy (460+ works)
4. Popular Traditions: over 300 Santos de palo (primarily Puerto Rican); devotional arts from the Santería, Candomblé and Orisha-worship traditions; masks (80+, primarily from Mexico and Guatemala) and 500+ objects related to the celebration of Día de los Muertos
