Historical Sources for Music at Oberlin

These records document the administrative, educational, and performance activities of the Oberlin Conservatory. Key holdings include faculty and committee minutes, dean and director correspondence, special programs such as the Salzburg Program and American Soviet Youth Orchestra. Also included are files on curriculum development, music education, building plans, organ construction, concert series programming, and media about artists and events. The papers of Daniel Troen Moe document the forty year choral music career of this educator, conductor and composer. Papers include a scrapbook and autobiographical account (“The soaring bird Gesangbuch”), articles and reviews about Moe, and a dissertation (“The choral music of Daniel Moe, 1952–67”).

The records of Pi Kappa Lambda, Theta Chapter, document the membership, programs, and governance of this honorary national musical fraternity from its establishment in 1927.

Diaries are devoted to Ainsworth’s musical activities and those of her friends. They record the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln in April 1865. From 1866–67, Ainsworth taught at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
